On January 12, 2016, the Board of Supervisors adopted a plastic bag ban with a ten cent cost on paper and reusable baggage in all retail shops. On August 26, 2014, the County Board of Supervisors adopted a plastic bag ban with 10 cent charge on paper and reusable luggage in all retail stores. On September 15, 2015, the city adopted a plastic bag ban with a 10 cent cost on paper and reusable luggage. The ordinance is effective January 1, 2016 in all retail establishments except for public consuming establishments. The Martinez City Council unanimously adopted a plastic bag ban with 10 cent minimal charge on paper or reusable luggage on June 18, 2014. The Council adopted a plastic bag ban with a ten cent charge on paper luggage in all retail shops on September 10, 2014.
